Nothing you do for children is ever wasted. They seem not to notice us, hovering, averting our eyes, and they seldom offer thanks, but what we do for them is never wasted. (Garrison Keillor)
The other night when Daughter A (6) was at basketball practice with Daddy, Daughter B (4) informed me, “This is our privacy time.” After a bubble bath and a few stories (some of them from this children’s Bible), I got drowsy. So she took the Bible and began “reading it” to me.
I woke up, and woke up fast. It doesn’t seem like I’ve read to her that much, but she was telling me the stories, if not word for word, at least concept for concept. She read on for quite awhile as I listened to that little voice narrating truths already assimilated into the architecture of her mind. It was moving for me.
