Do your reading habits change in the Spring? Do you read gardening books? Even if you don’t have a garden? More light fiction than during the Winter? Less? Travel books? Light paperbacks you can stick in a knapsack?
Or do you pretty much read the same kinds of things in the Spring as you do the rest of the year?
I wouldn’t say my reading tastes change. But my reading quantity sure does. I’ve been laboring through Winesburg, Ohio for about a week now simply because it’s become possible to read it outside, on the swing, and I find myself setting it aside after a few pages to drink in the sights and sounds: color at last; my kids playing; my dog yapping annoyingly because she wants me to throw the frisbee.
I consider this phenomenon to be my way of emerging from hibernation. Winter in the Northeast seems to go on forever, and I escape it by retreating mentally into the wonderfully varied universe of stories. Now I can come out of the confines of my four walls, my imagination, the covers of my books, and breathe deep of the pollen-laden air.

Yes, I know this syndrome. The idea of reading outside seems so attractive, but when it comes to the actual put to I don’t get much done either. I’m either in my own garden and noticing things to do or in someone else’s and being drawn to all the beauties they have and I haven’t.
Nicely said!
Happy Thursday… and what a beautiful way you have of putting things!
I know what you mean. Now that it’s getting nice outside, I tend to spend more time with the kiddies outside, and less in the house. I try to take books with me, but I never seem to get any read. As far as what I read….not a seasonal reader at all!
Happy Thursday!
Ahhhh Spring! Lovely isn’t it? I am drawn outside too… Just to sit and take in the warmth and the beauty and the renewal. Who cares about dusty old books!
I also love to read outside - I don’t read as fast but the fresh air and the scenery combined with a good book… Can’t beat it!
