It’s time for Sunday Salon, a chance to pause and take stock of the week’s reading. This week I continued with C.S. Lewis’s That Hideous Strength, a book I’ve read before but never felt like I fully grasp. I’m really enjoying it and trying not to rush through it. Having a little more Lewis under my belt since my last attempt is helping me to recognize some things I didn’t notice before. I journalled about the book here and here.
At my book club, we enjoyed a great discussion of Flannery O’Connor’s Wise Blood, and we chose our next book: The Memory of Old Jack by Wendell Berry.
I also read through America at War, a collection of war poems for children. I had mixed feelings about it, as my review explains. (I posted the review at Across the Page, but the future of that self-hosted blog is tentative because I’ve had more than my share of drama lately. I haven’t given up on it completely; I’m thinking I may use this as my primary blog, and that as my blog for books and poetry, but… we’ll see how it behaves over the next few weeks.)
Yesterday capped the week with a book-lover’s pilgrimage to a massive book sale. It was the perfect way to end the week… and, since I only browsed through about half of the books, it may be the perfect mid-week break, too!
I loved That Hideous Strength, but like you, I don’t think I had a good grasp on it when I read it the first time when I was a teenager…I look forward to checking out your journal entries.
As for Flannery O’Connor, I discovered her in college when I had a class on her and William Faulkner, and she is one of my favorite writers, along with Faulkner.
Thanks for sharing.

Sounds like you’ve have a full, ecclectic week in books! Not so for me. But it’s a new week….
